How we researched this
We have not tested the apps on this page hands-on. It is built from App Store and Google Play listings, the developers' own sites, and recent user reviews, captured as raw notes, and the writing is AI-assisted from those notes. Scores, rankings, and "best for / skip if" calls are our judgments from that research. Read the full methodology →
Our verdict
We'd recommend Bible Mode to most iPhone users whose problem is consistency rather than knowledge. The lock is a simple, clever idea that turns the most automatic habit on your phone into a cue for Scripture, the free version is genuinely usable and ad-free, and the ratings and reviews (including streaks past a year) suggest it works for a lot of people. The extras, especially Quiet Time, the widgets, and the verse reflections, support the same goal instead of distracting from it. Skip it if you are on Android, or if you want a study tool: there are no commentaries, original-language tools, or reading plans here. Be aware that Bible Chat is an OpenAI-powered feature whose own terms warn it can be wrong, that some reviewers find the devotionals repetitive, and that a handful report the lock failing to relock, which is the one thing a lock app cannot get wrong. Pair Bible Mode with a full Bible app like YouVersion for longer reading, and pay yearly if you upgrade.

Is Bible Mode free, and does it work?
Is it free? Yes, with limits. The developer says Bible Mode is free to use with optional in-app purchases, and reviewers point out that the free version has no ads.²⁵ Premium is sold as "Bible Time Supporter," and as of October 11, 2026 the App Store lists it from $4.99 (weekly) to $59.99 (yearly).¹
Does it work? For a lot of people, yes. Bible Mode holds a 4.9-star average across more than 12,000 US App Store ratings, and recent reviewers describe Scripture streaks of a month, of 375 days, and longer.¹⁵ The app is a habit tool, though, not a study tool, and the sections below cover where that line sits.
What Bible Mode actually is
Bible Mode is made by Friday Labs LLC and launched in May 2025.¹ It runs on iPhone and iPad; the developer says there is no Android version yet.³ The core is simple. You pick the apps that pull you off track, choose when blocking is active, and choose how you unlock: scan an open page of your physical Bible with the camera, or complete a short verse reflection with a prayer and an affirmation.¹³ The app calls this a two-minute reset with God before you dive back into your day.
The difference from an ordinary screen-time blocker is what the interruption asks of you. A normal blocker shows a countdown you learn to ignore. Bible Mode turns the same moment into a small act of reading or reflection, then counts it toward a streak.³
Day-to-day features
The lock and the unlock flow
This is the reason to install it. Reviewers describe setting the lock to cover social media in the morning or evening, unlocking with a verse reflection when no Bible is nearby, and finding that the habit of reaching for the feed slowly became a habit of reaching for Scripture.⁵ The privacy policy says the Bible-page detection runs through OpenAI's API in real time.⁴
Streaks, stats, and widgets
The home screen tracks your day streak, minutes saved, and faith points, with a calendar view of your Bible journey.¹ Rotating lock and home screen widgets show daily verses, devotionals, and prayers; premium increases how often they rotate, from daily to every two hours.¹
Bible reader, devotionals, and reflection
A full Bible reader includes KJV, ESV, and NLT, with options to save, copy, and share verses.¹⁴⁵ Curated devotionals come with guided reflection questions and a journaling box. One reviewer reported the journal text occasionally disappearing while typing.⁵
Bible Chat
Bible Chat lets you ask questions about Scripture, faith, emotions, and life. Bible Mode's Terms of Service say this feature uses large language models through OpenAI's API, that its responses do not represent any specific denomination, and that they may be inaccurate or incomplete.⁴ The developer's own guide says the same thing in plainer words: these tools are starting points, and good help should lead you deeper into Scripture, not make you dependent on a generated answer.³
Quiet Time, games, and sleep stories
Quiet Time mode sets aside a distraction-free session for prayer or reading. The app also includes Bible word games (Word Search, Bible Word, Complete the Verse, Emoji Stories, Bible Shelf), trivia, and narrated Bible stories and meditations for bedtime.³
Where it stands out
It meets you where the problem is. Most Bible apps wait for you to open them. Bible Mode stands in front of the apps you open instead, which is why reviewers who had struggled for years with consistency say it finally stuck.⁵
The free version is real. In a category where many faith apps put the core feature behind a trial, Bible Mode's lock, reader, and devotionals are usable for free, without ads.²⁵
Candor about its AI. The terms and privacy policy name OpenAI, explain what is sent, and warn that answers can be wrong.⁴
Where it falls short
iPhone and iPad only. No Android version exists yet.³ On Android, FaithLocked, Bible Break, and Pray Screen Time are the closest alternatives; our prayer lock apps roundup compares them.
The lock is not perfect. A few reviewers report apps staying unlocked for the rest of the day after a 15-minute unlock, which matters more here than any other bug could.⁵
Some content feels machine-made. One long-time reviewer dropped their rating because the devotionals felt AI-generated and repetitive.⁵
Not a study app. There are no commentaries, original-language tools, study Bibles, or structured reading plans.
Weekly billing. Premium is weekly or yearly with no monthly option, and reviewers have objected to paying weekly for a Bible habit.⁵⁶
The pricing reality
As of October 11, 2026 the App Store lists every premium SKU under the same name, "Bible Time Supporter," at $4.99, $6.99, $9.99, $19.99, $39.99, and $59.99.¹ Apple does not show the cadence. An onboarding capture shows the paywall offering a weekly plan and an annual plan, with a 3-day free trial on the annual one, and a reviewer described the price as about $5 a week or about $40 a year.⁵⁶ That gives:
- Weekly: $4.99 to $9.99
- Yearly: $19.99 to $59.99
At $4.99 a week you would pay about $260 over a year, versus about $40 on the common annual plan. If you upgrade, pay yearly. For comparison, YouVersion and First 5 are free, though neither includes an app lock.⁷⁸
All paid plans visible on the Bible Mode: Reduce Screen Time App Store listing. Free trials and intro pricing may vary by region.

- Bible Time Supporter - Weekly$4.99–$9.99
Yearly
- Bible Time Supporter - Yearly$19.99–$59.99
Who else should consider it
Teens and college students who want accountability. Several reviewers describe it as the thing that finally helped them put the phone down.⁵
People with ADHD or anyone who struggles with consistency. Reviewers in this group are among its most enthusiastic.⁵
Parents and mentors looking for a phone habit to suggest. The idea is easy to explain: Bible first, feed later.
Our final word
Bible Mode is one of the most practical faith apps we have added to this directory. It does not try to out-feature YouVersion; it tries to out-compete Instagram, and for a lot of iPhone users it does. The free version is enough to know whether it works for you, the extras support the same goal, and the developer is candid about its AI. The weak spots are real but narrow: no Android, weekly-or-yearly pricing, and an occasional lock that does not relock. Use it to build the habit, and use a full Bible app for the reading itself.
Best for
iPhone users who open social media before their Bible and want a gentle, faith-centered speed bump in front of their most distracting apps.
Skip if
Android users, anyone who wants a study Bible, and readers who already have a daily Scripture habit.
What real users say
Winning the battle over inconsistency!!
I’m ashamed to say I’ve been a Christian pretty much my whole life but have NEVER been able to stay consistent in my daily walk with God. Inconsistency is actually something I battle with in every part of my life. I’ve tried other reminder apps and they didn’t work for me but I seen someone post about this app and the APP BLOCKER feature. Lately I’ve been running to my social media apps before I even pick up my Bible so being able to keep them locked until I read my Bible was crucial for me and then having to actually show proof of that days reading!!! Mind blown!! Accountability!! I’m so happy to say I’m currently on Day 31 steak of having time with God and reading the Bible. I love that I can read the provided Bible verses when it’s a rushed morning and I can refer to the chat when I have questions. I also love how it will ask questions back to me and prompt me with self reflection on how to apply the scripture to my life. I have never in my life been consistent this long in my Bible reading. I am now able to make God the priority in the morning. I am winning the battle over inconsistency!!

Truly Life Changing
Where are my fellow ADHD friends that love the lord but fall short reading the Bible because you’re running in circles all day just trying to survive? Download this app NOW! I cannot put into words how grateful I am! I truly struggle to keep up with life in general so this has been such a huge blessing to me! I’ve been on the app for about a week now and not only do I read scriptures once a day, but multiple times a day! It gives you the option to lock your apps every 15 min, 1 hr, 2 hr, 6 hr, or all day. I may have missed an option or 2, but I know for certain it’s at least those. On busy days I do every 6 hours and on normal days I do way more! I’m on a medical leave of absence so the subscription is not in my budget… yet. I was bummed thinking once my 3 day trial was over I wouldn’t have access to the lock feature. I was wrong! It still works!I will 100% be purchasing the subscription as soon as I’m back to work because I want ALLLL the features and to support the creator of this amazing platform! Thank you for spreading God’s love and helping others stay on track!

AMAZING, WONDERFUL, not trying to exaggerate A BLESSING
To not review this app would be a lie and a bad bad mistake. Guys, this is wonderful app to have specially as a christian. More than ever I just have been much more focused on the task that I need to get to done. And today yk I kept just doomscrolling so that’s one of the reasons that my time on the phone looked much higher than earlier this week. But other than that, on the das that i’ve just willingly let Bible Mode work and do its thing, i’m glad. It blocks everything. For free. Gives me good devos and prayer for free, it’s been what 4 or 5 days not even a week and i’m like I can’t hide this anymore this is wayyy to good. I recommended it to my sister and on the second day she was like ohhh this is good. I’m glad that this group that i’m in recommended it to me bc at the same time i don’t have hunger to go and be on social media (except for today!) anyways thank you so much Bible Mode for being something affordable and something easy people can use. Guys if you did not get the memo already I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP!!!

Bible Mode helps me give God my first and best
Update added: I have been using Bible Mode now for 375 consecutive days. And wow, I crave time in God’s word, in prayer, and playing Bible Mode games. The quiz and trivia feature has helped me retain knowledge. I’ve recently enjoyed the audio feature. This app has given me accountability in my desire to spend more time with Jesus over social media and scrolling mindlessly. I cannot recommend Bible Mode enough. Original Review: Bible Mode has truly helped me stay focused on God and His Word daily instead of getting caught up in social media and other distractions that aren’t meant for me or my time. I love the chat feature as it’s been such a helpful way to process my thoughts through a biblical lens. Having the ability to ask for quick reference guides when I’m studying or searching for something specific has also made my time with the Lord more meaningful and intentional. I look forward to more features being added and hope to see bible study plans happen! Thank you, Bible Mode!

The BEST app you can get!
This app has quite literally changed my life. I used to sit for hours on end, scrolling on social media, telling myself, “After this video you can read your bible”. Only to, of course, put off spending time with the Lord for a few more hours just so I could have extra screen time. I downloaded this app in hopes that i would simply have something that would prevent me from going on to social media, and not even allow me the chance to scroll. I didn’t want to just limit my screen time on my phone, because i can press ‘15 more minutes’ thirty more times and keep scrolling!!This app works perfectly because it forces you to spend time in His Word before anything. What i love about it most, is that you don’t just have to read your bible. This app offers mini games such as a biblical version of Wordle (my favorite), trivia, word searches and so much more. By the time i have completed one of these games, i forgot that I even wanted to scroll. There are also options to snap a picture of your bible in person, or read daily devotions instead. It’s not only fun, but I’m also memorizing scripture and learning new things about the bible instead of scrolling. If your someone like me, where setting a screen time limit just doesn’t work, then I would definitely recommend this app. You can spend time with the Lord in place of social media, and keep your Bible Word streak running strong! (I’m currently at 23! 🔥) If the publishers of this app ever wanted to promote this on every platform, boy would I! That’s how much I love it.
