How we researched this
We have not tested the apps on this page hands-on. It is built from App Store and Google Play listings, the developers' own sites, and recent user reviews, captured as raw notes, and the writing is AI-assisted from those notes. Scores, rankings, and "best for / skip if" calls are our judgments from that research. Read the full methodology →
Our verdict
Bible Focus has one of the most inventive designs in the prayer lock category. Paying for screen time with prayer minutes, quizzes and church attendance rewards a wider set of faith habits than a single verse or prayer does, and the rising price of an unlock is a clever nudge to stay off your phone. The 4.8-star average and the privacy label, which says the developer collects no data, are points in its favor. We would still point most people elsewhere first. Nearly everything sits behind a subscription with no real free tier, there is no Bible to read inside the app, recent reviews describe bugs, AI-generated images and an app that has not grown much since it was called Romans, the official website was down when we checked, and the developer appears under three different names on the App Store. If the coin economy appeals to you, take the trial, pick a yearly plan, and pair it with a free Bible app such as YouVersion for the reading itself.

Is Bible Focus free, and is it legit?
Is it free? No, not in practice. Bible Focus is free to download, but the App Store listing says access to all features requires a subscription, and reviewers say the daily verse is the only thing they could use without paying.¹² As of October 12, 2026 premium is listed from $4.99 a week to $79.99 a year.¹
Is it legit? It is a real, actively updated App Store app with a 4.8-star average across about 1,200 US ratings, last updated in August 2026.¹ Its privacy label says the developer collects no data.¹ What gives us pause is the paper trail: the App Store names three different entities behind it (Rewired LLC, Cambria Middendorf and Cracked Labs, LLC), and its official website, trybiblefocus.com, returned an error when we checked.¹³ We have not tested the app ourselves, so the sections below rely on the listing and on user reports.
What Bible Focus actually is
Bible Focus launched on the App Store in June 2025 under the name Romans. An April 2026 update renamed it BibleFocus and described it as an app to quit doomscrolling for Christians.¹ The App Store lists the seller as Rewired LLC, the developer as Cambria Middendorf, and the copyright holder as Cracked Labs, LLC, and the support address is a crackedllc.com email.¹ The same developer account also publishes Rewired, a recovery app.¹ We could not find a published business address.
The app runs on iPhone and iPad, and on Apple silicon Macs and Apple Vision through the App Store's compatibility layer. It is English only, and we found no Android version.¹
The idea is a coin economy. The apps you choose are locked by default, and the only currency that opens them is time spent with God.¹ In the listing's words: pray for two minutes, earn coins; take a Bible study quiz, earn coins; walk into your church, earn coins. Then you spend coins to unlock Instagram, TikTok, X, or whatever else you have locked.¹
Day-to-day features
The coin lock
Bible Focus uses Apple's Screen Time framework to lock the apps you pick, and the listing says your block list stays on your device.¹ Unlocks are bought with coins, and the price rises the longer you go without spending, which the listing frames as "the math always favors faith."¹
Ways to earn
- Prayer and meditation timers that pay coins per minute.¹
- Bible study quizzes at four difficulty levels, from Beginner to Elite, plus a daily quiz.¹
- Daily verse reflections, refreshed every morning.¹
- Bible scan, which uses the camera to capture your daily reading from a physical Bible.¹
- Church check-in through Apple Maps for in-person attendance.¹
Streaks, stats and wind-down
Bible Focus tracks your daily streak, total coins earned and time reclaimed.¹ One reviewer says seeing their streak each morning, along with the verse of the day and a prayer, is a great way to start the day.² A light-therapy meditation mode is meant to help you wind down at night.¹ A July 2025 update, from the Romans era, added a home screen verse widget and a "panic button" for moments of temptation.¹
Where it stands out
It rewards more than reading. Prayer, quizzes, a Bible scan and going to church all count, a wider set of faith habits than most prayer lock apps reward.¹
The rising unlock price. Making each unlock pricier the longer you wait is a smart way to reward staying off your phone, rather than just gating it.¹
A clean privacy label. Apple's label says the developer does not collect any data from the app.¹
Where it falls short
No real free tier. The listing marks every feature as subscription-only.¹ Reviewers have complained about this since launch, including one who arrived from a creator's recommendation and found no way to continue without paying.²
No Bible in the app. Reading only counts through a scan of a physical Bible, a 2025 reviewer could not switch to the KJV, and a 2026 reviewer asks for a way to log reading time.¹²
Mixed recent reviews. One reviewer in August 2026 describes too many bugs and says friends preferred the Romans version; another says the app is not polished and criticizes AI-generated images; others say it has potential but wish the developers did more.²
A hard-to-pin-down developer. Three names on the listing and an offline website make it harder to know who you are paying.¹³
A sprawling price list. Ten SKUs, three of them without a billing period in the name, make it hard to know what you will be offered.¹
The pricing reality
As of October 12, 2026 the App Store lists these premium SKUs:¹
- Premium Weekly: $4.99
- Premium Monthly: $12.99
- Premium Yearly: $29.99
- Premium Annual: $59.99
- Premium Annual Trial: $29.99, $39.99 and $49.99
- BibleFocus Premium: $9.99, $49.99 and $79.99
The last three carry no billing period in their name and probably date from the Romans era. By size, $49.99 and $79.99 are most likely yearly, and $9.99 is likely weekly, though it could be an older monthly price; Apple does not say. The trial length is not published.
That gives roughly $4.99 to $9.99 a week, $12.99 a month, or $29.99 to $79.99 a year. At $4.99 a week you would pay about $260 over a year, and at $12.99 a month about $156, versus $29.99 to $49.99 on most yearly plans. If you subscribe, pay yearly. For comparison, Bible Mode has a usable free version.
All paid plans visible on the Bible Focus: Earn Screen Time App Store listing. Free trials and intro pricing may vary by region.
Weekly
- Premium Weekly$4.99–$9.99
Monthly
- Premium Monthly$12.99

- Premium Annual$29.99–$79.99
Who else should consider it
Teens and young adults who respond to games, points and streaks. The quiz levels and coin economy are built for them.
Churchgoers who want attendance to count. The Maps check-in is unusual in this category.¹
People who already read a physical Bible daily and want that habit, scanned, to pay for their screen time.¹
Our final word
Bible Focus has the most creative mechanic in the prayer lock category: a coin economy that pays you for prayer, quizzes, Bible reading and church attendance, with unlocks that get pricier the longer you resist. The privacy label is reassuring and the ratings are strong. But there is no free tier, no Bible in the app, a ten-SKU price list, recent reviews that describe bugs and stagnation, an offline website, and a developer listed under three names. It is an interesting idea worth a trial if the game layer motivates you, not our first recommendation.
Best for
Teens and young adults motivated by points, streaks and quizzes, who want prayer and church attendance to count toward screen time.
Skip if
Anyone who wants a free plan, a Bible to read inside the app, an Android version, or a clearly identified developer.
What real users say
Pros / Cons
First I’m going to say this app is very helpful. I personally don’t use it to block apps though, I think that’s more about discipline and you shouldn’t have to rely on an app for that, but if you want it it’s a great feature. I like how the app keeps track of how much time u have spent with God but one thing that should be added is the ability to log time that u read the Bible for

Potential
This app has so much potential but the developers are not really doing much I feel like for the amount of support they are getting and also this sort of app should not be behind a paywall I only gave it three because I really like the idea and it is good but there is still so much confusion that isn’t explained.

Such a helpful app
This app is so nice to wake up to in the morning, I get to see my streak and know I’ve been getting closer with god, I read a verse for the day and have a good prayer. Great way to start everyday

Great but has potential
it is a great app and it helps a lot, but there’s so much more potential with this app like guided prayers and more stuff to earn screen time it’s great, but if the developers did more, it could be awesome
